Bio

Dargan Hester is what happens when two lifers finally stop passing each other and start writing together.

Eric Hester and Sean Michael Dargan have each spent decades in the Madison music scene—different bands, different paths, same orbit. Forever Not Forever, their first release as a duo, feels less like a beginning and more like a meeting point.

…..lyrically, the record moves through aging, lost love, and the quieter, harder-won versions of happiness that come with time. These aren’t songs chasing youth, they’re songs reckoning with it, looking back without getting stuck there, and finding something steady on the other side……..

Drawing from the DNA of Big Star and The Replacements, with shades of R.E.M., and John Prine, the EP leans into melody, mood, and meaning without overreaching. The songs live in that space between clarity and contradiction, where getting older doesn’t mean getting answers, just better questions.

….Forever Not Forever is less a debut than a convergence: two songwriters with long histories, meeting at the right moment, writing toward something honest……

It’s a record about time: what you lose, what you keep, and what unexpectedly stays.

Madison has been home to both for more than 25 years, and the record carries that same sense of quiet permanence. No scene to chase, no trend to catch. Just songs that mean something, played like they know it.
